Bernard Don Bortey is one of those footballers who the public identify with a lot. Several years playing at the top level with Hearts of Oak also made him a household name. It also doesn’t hurt that he has played at almost every national level for Ghana.

So Ghanaians were understandably in shock when news broke last week that the once blond assassin had signed for a Swedish side. But the shock was not about him signing for Ange FI, it was rather about the report that claimed his new club had announced their star signing as a 24 year old.

It sparked a series of hilarious memes, but the former Ghanaian international has come to deny claims he’s 24 years old. According to him, he ‘only’ 32 and not 24.

“I do not know where this age issue is coming from,” the former Hearts star told Starr Sports.

“It is very bad because my club has not even posted my age on the internet so who did that? Everybody in Ghana knows my age unless you are a child who is not yet born.

“My actual age is 32, not 24, so why will I lie about it and for those doing that, no matter what Dong Bortey will rise again.”

Oh, these our immortal players. At least he has now set the record straight. And considering he played U-17 with Ghana in 1999 with the likes of Michael Essien, John Mensah, and John Panstil, I’d say he’s not so far off.

Still, we all know that 32 is just ‘football age’. Lol
