In one of the worst cases of twisted logic you’ll ever hear, one which perfectly illustrates how wrong society can get in these male dominated societies, two sisters in India including a 15 year old has been sentenced to be gang raped.

Apparently their elder brother has eloped with a lady from a higher caste system, which led to an unelected council placing the punishment on them.

The punishment is for the two sisters of the boy, 23 and 15 years respectively, to be raped and paraded naked through the streets of the town with their faces blackened as punishment for their brother’s ‘crime’.

India is still pretty much a caste society, and people from ‘lower castes’ are generally looked down upon and certainly cannot marry someone from a higher caste.

The girls and their brother belong to the ‘Dalit’ caste, who are generally referred to as ‘Untouchables’. The eloped woman and the vigilante council that passed down the judgement are from the higher ‘Jat’ caste.

The girl’s family said they’ve appealed to the Indian Prime Minister and other officials for help, but so far nothing has happened. The couple, who has since been found, has led to the boy being jailed, and even though he has been bailed his family does not want him out of prison out of fear for his life.

The two girls has also spoken of their fear that people could be sent to carry out the punishment anytime.

“I can’t sleep, I’m very scared,”  the 23 year old, Meenakshi Kumari, said from a secret location in Delhi, 30 miles from their village in Uttar Pradesh, central India.

“How will we ever return home or to our village? If we ever return they will harm us or rape us. If not today then in the future.”

Their village, called Baghpat, in Uttar Pradesh, is 30 miles from Delhi. It has approximately 250 Dalits compared to 7,000 Jats.
