Ghanaians Are To Be Slapped With An Increment In Utility Tariffs In October

Have you got a salary increment recently?–If your answer is no, then begin to plan ahead….

The energy crisis that we are experiencing in Ghana is not improving but service providers are seeking for an increment in utility tariffs. There is this strategy that to my opinion PURC is using to extort money from the poor citizenry. This automatic adjustment system; ever since I heard about that PURC’s term, I’m yet to see the day that utility tariffs will receive no hikes but rather be reducing.

This is a report from Starrfmonline;

The Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission is hinting of an impending review of utility tariffs in the last quarter of 2015.

The commission is currently holding public fora on proposed tariffs from service providers.

Utility companies are proposing over 100 percent increment in tariffs. The demand of the utility companies are in response of what the companies are describing as high cost of production, according to some utility service providers.

The Ghana Water Company Limited is pushing for an upward adjustment in the price of 1 cubic meter of water, from 1 cedi 78 pesewas to 4 cedis, representing over 200 percent increase.

The Director of Public Affairs for the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah in an interview on Morning Starr said although the reviews have not been approved yet, consumers should expect changes for the last quarter of the year.

“We have a month to do everything, we have up to the first week in October but this is the process we go through every time when we have a major tariff increase,” Miss Jantuah told host Kafui Dey Tuesday.
