Tragic news, and I’m afraid teen suicide is more of a problem than most of us realise. We mustn’t shrug it away like we do most other things.

Residents of New Koforidua, a predominant farming community in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality, were astounded when a 13-year-old boy committed suicide, GNA reports.

The teenager hanged himself on a rice farm over the weekend and it was unclear why he took that decision.

Police Superintendent Ibrahim Sule, the Konongo District Commander, confirmed the incident to Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said the grandfather of the deceased was being held to assist in police investigations.

The boy lived with the suspect Sampson Apam.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased had been deposited at a morgue at Konongo pending autopsy.
