The soldiers who forcefully took over power last week have handed it back over after a peace deal engineered by ECOWAS was signed by all concerned parties.
Their departure hands power back over to interim President Michael Kafando until elections are held next month.
Tensions became high in the capital for a while after the army advanced on the coup leaders threatening war if they did not hand over. But a peace deal granting them amnesty was enough for the usurpers.
They seized power last week, grabbing the interim President and Prime Minister during a meeting.
As part of the deal, allies of former President Blaise Compoare, who were initially banned from taking part in the elections, would be allowed to participate.
Some would say the mutinous soldiers got everything they wanted; although the interim President has indicated they might not adhere to all the terms of the deal.
