Love, they say, conquers all. Even a terrible world cup loss, it seems.

Romanian scrum half Florin Surugiu proposed to his girlfriend at Wembley stadium, mere moments after his side had been hammered 44-10 by Ireland on Sunday.

Surrounded by his teammates and some fans, Surugiu popped the question to his elated girlfriend, who promptly accepted. The pair embraced as his teammates congratulated him.

Romania have lost both games at the Rugby World Cup so far, so the timing seems a little suspect. He doesn’t care much though.

Head coach Head coach Lynn Howells does care, however.

“’I tried to tell him not to.” he said after the grand proposal.
