A scripted comedy series based on the early life of Nicki Minaj is set to be aired by ABC. The series would focus on Minaj growing up in Queens, New York; and would be executive produced by her as well.

ABC has committed to airing the series, and would shoot the pilot episode in Queens this winter.

“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke.

“Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Born Onika Maraj, Nicki was born in Saint James, Trinidad, but moved to the US as a young girl. The show would focus on her experiences growing up in Queens in the 90’s.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Nicki said

“I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
