Ghanaian actor-Ekow Smith Asante says the movie industry is hungry for professional and outstanding script writers.

According to him, the work of amateur script writers in the industry is having a bearing on the movies being produced by the end of the day.

“We really have just a few script writers, we don’t have really outstanding ones who will give you a script and you go like woooow.

“If you ask me right now to list a couple of script writers I might be found wanting. I might not even be able to mention three,” he told KMJ on the Daybreak Hitz (Showbiz Review) show on Hitz FM.

Ekow pronounced that it is a bad precedent for some script writers to imitate stories from foreign movies.

“Sometime back people were just picking stories either from the American movies or Indian movies and will change it here and there and make it a movie.”

He called upon private producers to inject more into production cost in order to enhance quality productions.

Ekow, a native of Mampong Akropong was introduced to Freelance Players in 1994 by colleague actor, Wakefield Ackuaku of Nyankonton Players after completing the Presbyterian Training College in Akropong.

He featured on TV series such as Sun City but his big break came in 2003 when he landed the lead role in Super Stars which also featured the late Suzzie Williams. Since then, he has featured in many movies including Brave Souls, Royal Battle, and Suffering to Lose, among others.
