There Is No Hope For You, If You Are Not Married—Says Toke Makinwa

Nigerian radio personality, TV host and vlogger-Toke Makinwa has advised career women not ignore marriage in replacement of their careers.

According to her, marriage is how someone is seen in the society and duly respected.

“Marriage is how you are seen in the society; marriage is how you are duly respected. If you are not married, there is no hope for you. 30 is knocking at the door. If you have crossed 30 even worse, you need tips.”

“You have to make a truce; You either chose to follow your career or you chose to get married. You cannot do the two at the same time, it cannot work. They believe that when a woman is career driven he is a threat to men, men will not approach you.”

“Therefore, you are approaching 45 if not 50 and you are single, forget career. Career is not going to keep the night warm for you when you are 40. Career is not going to keep you company when you are going to need it. Career is not going to sleep with you,” Toke Makinwa said in her Vlog.

Once again, don’t these kind of statements reinforce the man superiority and the African societal misconception that until a woman is married, she is pretty useless? Again, the argument that such notions glue women to marriages even if they are being abused can’t be ignored—when such statements come flying.

Makinwa had a private wedding ceremony with her lover of 8 years Maje Ayida on January 15, 2014.

Makinwa became an ambassador of the United Africa Company of Nigeria alongside Osas Ighodaro, Dare Art Alade and Dan Foster in 2013. She also signed a multi-million naira contract with Nestlé Nigeria to become the new face of Maggi.

She won the Outstanding Female Presenter of the Year in the 2013 edition of the Nigeria Broadcasters Awards.
