The Judicial council has been trying very hard for the past few weeks to establish a case against all those corrupt judges captured on video by Anas selling justice in this country.

When news of the scandal broke, the 22 Circuit/magistrate court judges were suspended, but any action against the High Court judges was predicated on the investigations being carried out by the committee set up by the Chief Justice to determine if the case being brought against the judges had merit.

It seems they do, because a statement from the Judicial Council indicates seven of the twelve has been suspended. The Vice-President, acting as President in the absence of John Mahama, took the action in consultation with the Judicial Council.

The seven suspended judges include the now famous Justice John Ajet-Nassam, Justice Francis K. Opoku, Justice Kofi Essel Mensah, Justice Ernest Obimpeh, Justice Kwame Ohene Essel, Justice Ivy Heward-Mills, and Justice Gilbert Ayisi Addo.

“On the advice of the Judicial Council, the Vice President, KwesiBekoeAmissah-Arthur, acting in his capacity as President of the Republic of Ghana on Friday, October 2, 2015, suspended from office with immediate effect, seven (7) out of the 12 Justices of the High Court on grounds of stated misbehaviour. Their suspension is pursuant to article 146 (10)(b) of the 1992 Constitution.” A statement released by the Judicial Council reads.

So pursuant to article 146 (3) of the constitution, the President has taken the decision after the Chief Justice’s committee established the prima facie case.

Five more justices have not been suspended, pending the completion of the committee’s work, which was put on hold just last week.
