The boss of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has said that a government policy which calls for the construction of a new stadium every decade would be a great way to help sports infrastructural development in the country.

The GFA President was on Morning Starr Tuesday, and spoke on several topics regarding football in Ghana.

Considering the deplorable nature of the country’s major stadium, including news this morning that it’s been plunged into darkness due to mounting debt, as well as the not so stellar condition of most of the others- Nyantakyi realises that a major overhaul of infrastructure is needed to raise the level of the game.

However, government must be the one to do that.

“It is the responsibility of the government to build these facilities, just as government provides roads, good drinking water, hospitals, it must also provide attention to [building sports facilities]” he told Nii Arday Clegg on the Accra based radio station.

“If there is a policy that every 10 years government would build a stadium I think that it would help.” He hopefully added.

The President also touched on the oft repeated stance that the foreign leagues are contributing to the demise of the local league; an argument already proven to be totally flawed.

“We have foreign football which is very common on our TVs these days competing with our domestic football.

“We cannot compete with European football because they have developed in many aspects. Their economies are better than our economies, in terms of infrastructure; we cannot.” He poignantly added.

Well, he’s the FA boss. Maybe a little more doing and a little less talking.
