Kumawood Is Back With Our Judges Parts 1&2 | What More Can We Say Again

Our Judges

Over the years, we’ve written several articles about the deteriorating state of our movie industry – that’s if we truly have one functioning.

One of the key areas we keep hammering is how our scriptwriters go about writing their plots for various movies. Whilst the English speaking Ghallywood keep ‘stealing’ storylines from foreign producers, our Twi speaking Kumawood rely heavily on trending events making headlines in the country.

I agree with Ghanaian actor – Ekow Smith Asante – who recently said Ghana needs professional script writers because “we don’t have outstanding ones who will give you a script and you go like wow.” To describe our numerous movies as having inventive storylines will be an insult on our intelligence as a people.

Today, Kumawood is back again with another reprehensible movie titled ‘Our Judges.’ The movie takes inspiration from the recent expose by Ghanaian investigative journalist – Anas Aremeyaw Anas. In the expose, some Ghanaian judges were caught on camera taking bribes (including goats, yam, money etc) in order to distort justice.

The release of this movie (Our Judges) does not come as a big surprise to some of us knowing the kind of people who make up our movie industry. What amazes us is the fact that the script writers and producers have not taken upon themselves to learn and challenge themselves enough to come out with great and classic movies.

Some of the movies produced so far include Tonga, Oh Vera, AyariCough, Asamoah Gyan, Yebe Dii Keke, Maricruz, Menam Na Metete, and Obinim Schwaznager.

Till they keep changing their ways for the better, we will also keep writing about them.
