Lamar Odom seems, if not out of the woods, at least in sight of the forest by line in his fight to stay alive and return fully functional.

The former NBA star and husband to Khloe Kardashian was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel last Tuesday, having overdosed on cocaine and other medication.

The initial prognosis looked very bad, having been unconscious for days and suffered multiple organ failure; but the situation has taken a turn for the better in the past few days.

Continuing that trend, the athlete is now reported to be breathing entirely on his own, aided by an oxygen mask but totally weaned off the ventilator that had been helping him breathe earlier.

He is also said to be “responding to doctors both physically and verbally today and his heart is still doing well.”

Despite all these myriad improvements, Lamar is hardly out of the woods. He’s still suffered multiple organ failures and is undergoing several treatments for that, including dialysis.

Still, as a source told TMZ, “this is the best 24 hours he has had so far.”

Let’s hope for more improvements on that front.
