Irish-American actress and singer, Maureen O’Hara has died at age of 95.

Reports indicate that she died on Saturday through natural causes; passing on whilst sleeping at her home in Boise, Idaho in the United States.

“She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family as they celebrated her life listening to music from her favorite movie, The Quiet Man,” her family confirmed in a statement to USAToday.

“As an actress, Maureen O’Hara brought unyielding strength and sudden sensitivity to every role she played. Her characters were feisty and fearless, just as she was in real life. She was also proudly Irish and spent her entire lifetime sharing her heritage and the wonderful culture of the Emerald Isle with the world,” said a family biography.

She is survived by her daughter, Bronwyn FitzSimons, grandson, Conor FitzSimons, and two great-grandchildren.

O’Hara, born as Maureen FitzSimons in Dublin, Ireland, in 1960, was the oldest of six children. She became a film star at the age of 19 when she played Esmeralda in 1939’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

In addition to The Quiet Man, the actress appeared in four other of director John Ford’s films, including How Green Was My Valley and Rio Grande. She also played Natalie Wood’s mother in the 1947 Christmas classic, Miracle on 34th Street, and worked with Alfred Hitchcock in the 1939 film Jamaica Inn.

The famously red-headed O’Hara was known for playing fiercely passionate but sensible heroines, and often worked with director John Ford and longtime friend John Wayne. She was one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
