Twice defeated Presidential Candidate of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo; has revealed his plans to involve some Ghanaian entertainers in his government if given the nod to rule the country in the upcoming elections.

Nana Akufo Addo, speaking at the 15th anniversary of the NPP’s tertiary student wing, TESCON, at the University of Ghana- said any nation that denies its youth the opportunity to participate in the nation building process does so at its own risk.

The 71-year-old politician said their creative talents and labor power could make giant strides towards the development of the country.

“I am encouraged by the creativity and sense of enterprise of several of Ghana’s young people. This reinforces my unshakeable believe in the prospects of our nation as Black Star of Africa.”

“So I speak of talent such as Sarkodie, Samini and his friend Shatta Wale, Kwabena Kwabena, Joyce Blessing, Joe Mettle, Ohemaa Mercy, Edem, SP Kofi Sarpong, Becca, Eyfa, R2bees, Kwaw Kesse,” he said.

This is long overdue but it seems the Ministry of Youth and Sports–and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, have lost their focus as bodies to give the youth the needed platform to channel their bursting energy into positive use.

We only hear about Ministry of Youth and Sports when the Senior National Team, (Black Stars) are into a football game—that ministry has turned out to be a Black Stars Ministry—and all other sectors under its auspices have been totally neglected.

On the part of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Arts, the sector has been a total failure—and I’m yet to see any initiative that they have created to impact the life of Ghanaian youth and the creative arts industry.

If you have come across any of their projects and developmental plans, please do share with us through the comment box–and we promise to do a follow up on it…
