Hell hath no fury like a man scorned, it seems.

A Chinese man who feared his wife was having an affair after she told him she wanted to leave their marriage cut off her hand with a meat cleaver, MailOnline reports.

Chen Anjun and Bing Yiqin seemed happily married, living with two children. They ran a clothing store together, which actually would turn out to be the genesis of their problems.

The wife would surf the net at work when she was bored, and the paranoid husband began to suspect she was cheating on him with someone online. He began abusing her when he found out she had lent the man 3,000 Yuan ($455), leading to him closing the store and asking that they travel to work in Shanghai.

Not wanting to go, the woman asked for a divorce, and then run away to Suzhou. He tracked her down four months later, carried her with him to Shanghai, were he bought the meat cleaver and chopped off her hand in a twisted act he tried to rationalise.

“If I chopped off her hand and she becomes disabled, no man will want her. I can then keep her by my side.” The report quotes him as saying.

He also reportedly added that he sharpened the cleaver well, to minimise the pain his wife would feel. After hacking off the limb, he mutilated it and tossed it in the garbage.

Doctors could not reattach the hand because of the damage he caused after severing it, so Bing would have to make do with a prosthetic. Chen was arrested by police, and should stand trial. His wife, for her part, has filed for divorce, and is suing him for damages as well.
