Legendary Ghanaian highlife musician, Rex Owusu Marfo known in showbiz circles as Rex Omar, has called on industry players to promote highlife and hiplife together.

He said the western world were able to influenced us with their culture through their music and creative art sector—so it’s time for Ghanaians to rise up—and present what we have at the international stage.

He indicated that the two genres are ‘Ghanaian Made’ so there’s the need to ensure that they succeed together.

“Hiplife is a generational thing which can be found in other parts of the world. We are living in a global world where Westerners have bombarded us with their culture through their media and that applies to music, the more you hear, the more it inks in your blood.

I don’t believe it is necessary to say hiplife should be killed leaving highlife or highlife should be killed leaving only highlife. We should project both together for those who want to sing hiplife to do and do it well and for the others who want to toe the highlife lane to also do and do it well. At the end of the day if its hiplife, its Ghana and if its highlife, it’s the same Ghana,” he said on Kumasi-based Angel FM.

Rex Omar recently announced his comeback onto the music scene after about ten years of hiatus.

Following the release of his latest track ‘Paapa’, Rex disclosed that his upcoming album will feature Ghana’s rap doctor (Okyeame Kwame), Samini, Sarkodie, Trigmatic and others.
