Nollywood actress, Dakore Akande has disclosed that what would make her quit acting is if the mediocrity in the industry doesn’t cease—rather than because of her marriage.

The 37-year-old actress and a mother of two said being a mother has given her the extra motivation of giving her all to secure a better future for her children.

“I thought I would quit the industry if the mediocrity continues. Being a mum is my biggest role in life. It is what gives me the most joy at this time. To be a good role model to them, and it is dear to my heart to leave the world a better place for them,’ she told The Sun.

When asked about her view concerning Nigerian officials placing restrictions on couples about the number of kids they could have, she opined: “My take is that people should be realistic about their expectations and be smart about their choices. People should not wait for the government or any organisation to enforce or press that on them. Overall, just be able to cater sufficiently for your family.”

Dakore Akande is an ambassador for Amnesty International, Amstel Malta and Oxfam of America.

She studied mass communication at the University of Lagos but had to drop out due to incessant strikes. She is currently married with 2 kids.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan during his tenure urged Nigerians to adhere to birth control measures—and limit the number of children that they have.

“We are extremely religious people… It is a very sensitive thing.”

Mr. Jonathan was quoted as saying: “Both Christians and Muslims, and even traditionalist and all the other religions, believe that children are God’s gifts to man.

“So it is difficult for you to tell any Nigerian to number their children because… it is not expected to reject God’s gifts.”
