NDC Wins Amenfi West By-Election

The MP of Amenfi West, John Gyetua, recently suddenly passed away, necessitating a by election in the constituency.

Held on Tuesday, December 15, the NDC fielded Eric Afful, hoping to retain the seat- whilst the NPP’s Paul Derkyi was hoping to wrest the seat from the hands of the NDC.

But the incumbent managed to retain the seat, winning by just over 2,000 votes. Eric polled 15,809 of the valid 30,030 votes cast in Tuesday’s by-election, with Mr. Paul Derkyi polling 13,076 to place second.

Voter turnout was just under 50%, 30,561 valid out votes out of a voter population of 62,364.
