The Force has truly awakened, sending wave after wave of people to the cinema to catch a glimpse of the new Star Wars film.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released barely a fortnight ago, the latest instalment in the Star Wars series- and it has already reached a new milestone by becoming the fastest movie to gross $1bn at the worldwide box office.

The movie achieved the record in 12 days, beating the previous record held by Jurassic World, which took 13 days the achieve the monstrous feat upon its release in July.

The Force Awakens set another record, grossing $49.3m in the US to set a Christmas Day record.
