FIFA Dismisses Suspended General Secretary Jerome Valcke

The world football organising body, still embroiled in scandal as they are, have decided to get rid of another relic from the Blatter regime; General Secretary Jerome Valcke.
Valcke had initially been suspended for 90 days in September last year over allegations of corruption in the sale of World Cup tickets. He has also been implicated in another scandal, this one involving the payment of a $10m bribe to former CONCACAF head Jack Warner.
The ethics committee of the besieged organisation had last week announced formal proceedings had been instituted against Mr Valcke, leading to the announcement of his sacking on Wednesday.
“The FIFA emergency committee decided to dismiss Jerome Valcke from the position of FIFA secretary general with immediate effect. Jerome Valcke is therefore no longer the secretary general of FIFA.
“The employment relationship between FIFA and Jerome Valcke has also been terminated.
“The duties of the secretary general will continue to be assumed by the acting secretary general, Dr Markus Kattner.”
Frenchman Valcke was a close ally of disgraced former boss Sepp Blatter, and served as his right hand man for many years in the organisation. Blatter and former UEFA head Michelle Platini received eight year bans from the sport last month, and for many other former top officials of FIFA several investigations continue to be made into their dealings.
