Russian Commentator Suspended For Falling Asleep During Barcelona Champions League Game

Tv commentators would have to guard against this little bug creeping into their work, because sleeping on the job is a cardinal sin that very few survive.
After a recent case in China, where a veteran commentator lost his job after a similar incident- the sleeping bug this time hit a Russian journalist.
Vasily Utkin, who works for the state sports broadcaster Match Tv, has been suspended after falling asleep whilst commentating a Champions league fixture.
Utkin was calling Barcelona’s champions league group stage game against Bayer Leverkussen in December when he fell asleep. He has consequently been suspended by the station.
Utkin does not deny falling asleep, but blames it on a chronic sleep disorder that he has.
“I am convinced [the suspension] is due to this commentary in the game between Bayer and Barca. But I wasn’t spoken to just about this game,” he told the TASS agency.
“I can explain what happened in the match. For a few years, I’ve been suffering from chronic sleep disorder. It just so happened that at the end of the first half, I fell asleep and I was talking in my sleep.
“Naturally, it is very easy to understand that this is the case, because in the second half there were no problems at all.”
Utkin should be hoping for a more favourable outcome than the last commentator who was caught sleeping on the job.
