A series of terror attacks hit the Indonesian capital of Jakarta early Thursday, with multiple suicide bomb explosions and gun attacks that was not nearly as effective as the militants might have hoped.
Because despite hitting numerous targets and engaging in gun battles with law enforcement- the militants killed two civilians, with five of their number biting the dust.
The Islamic State group later claimed responsibility for the attacks, and in the manhunt that has followed, law enforcement has arrested three more suspected jihadis
“Chief security minister Luhut Pandjaitan confirmed media reports that three people suspected of plotting an attack were arrested at a house in the city of Depok, just south of Jakarta.” Reuters reported Friday morning.
The local Metro Tv said the three included a bomb-maker, a firearms expert and a preacher.
Police continue their expansive manhunt, as Indonesia reels from the unfamiliar feeling of being a target of such terrror.
“We need to strengthen our response and preventive measures, including legislation to prevent them … and we hope our counterparts in other countries can work together because it is not home-grown terrorism, it is part of the ISIS network,” Jakarta police chief Tito Karnavian said.
A series of terror attacks hit the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Thursday, killing seven people in total. The attacks included multiple suicide bombings as well as gunfights between the perpetrators and law enforcement.
About a dozen gunmen carried out the attacks, five of whom died, as well as two others. They hit some of the city’s busiest precincts, including the local United Nations building.
In the aftermath of the attacks, President Joko Widodo , speaking on national Tv, condemned the action.
“We all are grieving for the fallen victims of this incident, but we also condemn the act that has disturbed the security and peace and spread terror among our people,”
***Later reports indicated that one of three died in the raid, whilst the two others were indeed arrested.
