US Kept Document Indicating The Two Guantanamo Prisoners Are A ‘High Security Risk’ From Ghanaian Government

President John Dramani Mahama, at his recent press briefing, drummed home the message that the two prisoners Ghana is taking in from Guantanamo Bay are ‘low risk’ and pose no threat to this country.
However, that was directly contradicted by a Wikileaks report, which classified Mahmoud Omar Mohammed Bin Atef,36, and Khalid Shayk Mohammed, 34; as ‘high security risks’ who took part in active operations of Al-Qaeda.
Wikileaks, the whistle blowing organisation- often has access to classified files, thus making it likely they know what the hell they’re talking about. That conclusion also tallies with one by Fox, which had noted that Bin Atef “is an admitted member of the Taliban and fought for Usama bin Laden, while Al-Dhuby trained with Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.”
However, when confronted with the report, Foreign Minister Hannah Tetteh conceded that she knew nothing about the report. According to her, information provided by the US did not contain the assessment of them as ‘high risk’, thus she has asked for clarification on that point from the US.
She spoke to Nii Arday Clegg on Morning Starr on Friday.
“I have asked the US Embassy for clarification. The document that was made available to us was the assessment of the two detainees… the information from WikiLeaks were not part of documents available to us,” she added.
Seems like too many government officials are getting caught with their pants down in relation to this issue, or they are just lying to us or being lied to by the United States. Whatever the case, telling Ghanaians that these guys are ‘low risk’ is as blatant as a falsehood can get.
Oh wait, but ‘low risk’ is exactly how our President described them.
“Ghana did a risk assessment after the US made the request for Ghana to take them. These were low-risk people who were picked when they were 20 years old. There was no evidence that they could be charged.
“We did a comprehensive appraisal of the situation when the request came in from the US to take the detainees…The two detainees were said to be the lowest risk inmates of Guantanamo Bay,”
So either our government is lying or they have been played for incompetent fools.
