Musician, political activist and part time security expert Barima Sidney- says Ghanaians have nothing to fear from the two former gitmo detainees.
A fierce debate has been sparked in the country since government announced the decision to accept from the United States government two ex-detainees of the terrorist holding prison on Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
The slew of contradictions and half-truths government has fed us with in relation to the deal signals something’s up, plus the terrorist actions that got them incarcerated in Guantanamo show they weren’t novices as we’re being led to believe.
However, Sidney believes the fear gripping Ghanaians over the issue is an irrational one. According to him, Ghanaians travel to countries at risk of terrorism all the time, so why the uproar.
“If the Guantanamo detainees are a threat to Ghana why do Ghanaians still travel abroad – there are more terrorists in the countries Ghanaians travel to,” Barima Sidney told Mike 2 on Adom Entertainment Hall.
Speaking further, he added that there’s nothing to fear, and that the entire discussion about them contributes nothing to the nation.
“I don’t see anything so fearful with the two ex-Gitmo detainees – opposition parties should rather talk about issues that will help develop the nation – what is Gitmo 2” he queried?
Sidney is well noted for pointing out issues in the political arena, but we think he has missed the mark on this one.
