Mariah Carey and her Australian billionaire fiancé have a teeny tiny issue to settle before they can take the next step in their relationship- they both have to get officially divorced!
Carey’s shiny new boyfriend Packer proposed to the singer this week, yet it turns out a lot of bureaucratic formalities would have to be finalised before they can even think of getting married.
According to TMZ, neither Packer not Carey have finalised their divorces from Erica Packer and Nick Cannon respectively. Packer and his ex-wife separated in 2013, whilst Carey and Cannon separated in 2014.
TMZ’s report notes that Cannon has dragged his feet in his divorce, hoping to squeeze more money in the financial settlement. However, things have cooled down recently between the two, and the divorce is expected to be settled quite soon.
For James and Erica Packer, Australia’s divorce laws are what has prolonged the process. Both have moved on, as Erica is with Seal now; and James would be getting married to Mariah as soon as these pesky details are ironed out.
Mariah Carey recently got engaged to her new boyfriend James Packer, just over a year after her very public split from ex Nick Cannon.
Packer, a businessman, is recognised by Forbes as Australia’s fourth richest man, worth a reported $4.6bn. They were first spotted together in public last June.
