The Recording Academy on Tuesday February 2 announced that Lady Gaga would perform a tribute to the late rock legend, David Bowie during this year’s Grammy Awards.
Bowie, who is also set to receive a posthumous Lifetime achievement award at the ceremony, passed away from cancer earlier this year.
Gaga was already slated to perform at the ceremony, and has been chosen for the tribute due to the obvious influence Bowie has had on her work. She has in the past admitted to being a huge fan of the singer.
“GRAMMY winner and Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient David Bowie will be honored on the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards with an experiential tribute performed by six-time GRAMMY winner and current nominee Lady Gaga. The tribute will mark Lady Gaga’s fourth appearance on the GRAMMY Awards telecast.” The Academy said in its announcement.
“Affording audiences a chance to experience Bowie’s music once again, the tribute will be a multisensory testament to the icon’s incredible artistry and limitless creativity. The musical director for Lady Gaga’s tribute is three-time GRAMMY winner Nile Rodgers, whose own history with Bowie dates back more than 30 years to “Let’s Dance,” the chart-topping 1983 hit that marked the beginning of a lifelong friendship between the two.”
LL Cool J would host the 58th Grammy Awards, set to take place at the Los Angeles Staples Centre on Monday, February 15 2016.
