He’s not known as the ‘6 God’ for no reason. The rapper popularised the use of the term ‘The 6’ to refer to his home city, coined from the city’s original area code of 416.
And now, he has been honoured by being presented with the key to the city. ‘The key to the 6’, as he proudly noted on his Instagram.
On Thursday, February 11, the mayor of Toronto, John Tory, announced that he would be presenting Drake with the key. In a post on twitter, Tory explained the decision as such.
“The key to the city? Well, it’s the highest honour we can give. I believe the key should go to individuals who make people across the city feel good about themselves and about their city. It should make us proud of who we are and what we can achieve.”
Drake was thus presented with the award on Friday, just before the commencement of the NBA All-Star celebrity game. The proud entertainer posted it online to his legion of fans, who predictably, loved it. It is hard to think of another entertainer who represents their city so much.
