There isn’t a single person on this planet Donald J Trump is not willing to take on and abuse if they challenge his way of thinking.
His latest beef is with the pontiff of the world’s largest Christian sect, Pope Francis. During a visit to Mexico, the Pope tackled the Donald’s plan to build a wall at the US-Mexico border, one he says he would make Mexico pay for.
Speaking on that, the Pope said: “A person who thinks only about building walls…and not of building bridges, is not Christian.”
Trump, as usual, did not take kindly to that. At a press conference, he called the Pope’s sentiment disgraceful, saying that nobody should have the right to question another person’s faith.
“For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful.” Trump said.
“I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President.
“No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith.”
He also added that when ISIS eventually attacks the Vatican, the Pope would pray and hope that Donald Trump was US President to have stopped that attack.
“If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’ ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened.”
This guy, he thinks everything revolves around him.
Having realised that such arrogance might not play well for the US’ large Catholic population going forward, he walked back the comments later Thursday night during a Republican Town Hall event, saying he has a lot of respect for the Pope.
“I have a lot of respect for the Pope. He has a lot of personality and I think he’s doing a very good job, he has a lot of energy.”
