Ghanaian In The US In Trouble After Attempting To Smuggle Guns Into Ghana Hidden In A Washing Machine

This man tried to be too ingenious for his own good, and now faces twenty years in jail for violating federal law.
33 year old Rickmond Akoto Attah, who lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, is on trial for attempting to smuggle twenty seven guns and some rounds of ammunition to Ghana from Charlotte.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Akoto stockpiled nearly 100 guns and over 3,500 rounds of ammunition over a period of two years, and then attempted shipping some to Ghana in a washing machine in December last year. The rounds of ammunition he hid in a barrel, but his luck unfortunately run out.
He was arrested after the ruse was discovered, and now faces one count of violating the Arms Export Control Act, one count of illegal firearms dealing, two counts of smuggling goods from the United States and four counts of making false statements to a firearms dealer.
Attah faces jail time of up to twenty years, and a fine of $1m.
