‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ author- Nelle Harper Lee, who’s Pulitzer prize winning book is often cited as one of the most influential books of all time, has passed away.
Lee was found dead at her home Friday, February 19, apparently dead from natural causes. She was 89.
‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ was Lee’s first and only novel, and her life’s magnum opus. The book was a commercial and critical success upon publication in 1960, and inspired a movie of the same name, that also went on to become a rousing success.

“Ms. Lee passed away in her sleep early this morning. Her passing was unexpected. She remained in good basic health until her passing.” the 89 year old’s nephew Hank Conner, said in a statement Friday morning.
“This is a sad day for our family. America and the world knew Harper Lee as one of the last century’s most beloved authors.
“We knew her as Nelle Harper Lee, a loving member of our family, a devoted friend to the many good people who touched her life, and a generous soul in our community and our state. We will miss her dearly.”
Lee suffered a stroke in 2007, and has been quietly recuperating in her Monroeville, Alabama residence.
‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ has sold over 30 million copies over its span, and has been translated into more than 40 languages.
An early draft of the book was published in 2014 as ‘Go Set A Watchman’; but there was so much controversy over whether she was capable of giving permission for its publication, as she had vehemently opposed publishing another book for decades after ‘Mockingbird’.
Adieu to a literary giant. May she rest in peace.
