Sam George, NDC Parliamentary candidate for Ningo-Prampram, who’s currently suspended from the party, is set to be embroiled in another legal battle, after the Multimedia Group filed a defamation suit against him.
Same George had alleged that the Multimedia Group had taken loans from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and GBC; and had failed to pay back either loan.
The suit mentions The Enquirer Newspaper and Radio Gold as co-defendants; George made his proclamations on the latter, and they were published by the former.
George allegedly said: “Multimedia, the Multimedia network itself, took money, loan, about eight million from SSNIT. SSNIT, is it not Government money? SSNIT, look, the rest we are even talking taxpayer’s money, taxpayers are active people who are working and paying.
“SNIT is pensioners, old people who are who cannot work, their small money they will chop, the one they’ve saved from when they were working that they will live on, Multimedia has gone for a loan from it, from that money, and they have not been able to pay SSNIT.”
According to Joy Fm’s Manasseh Azure, the Presidential staffer was given forty eight hours, commencing last Friday, to publicly apologise and retract his comments; but he rather sent intermediaries to plead for him in private. With the absence of a public apology, the suit was filed on Monday, February 22.
The suit is for ‘reckless and malicious’ defamation of the plaintiff by defendant, by making unproven allegations of corruption.
Sam George has constantly been in the news these past few months, after his protracted and acrimonious fight against his mentor E.T Mensah in the Ningo-Prampram NDC Parliamentary Primaries. George eventually won, but has since been suspended by the party.
