It’s tipped to become the biggest RomCom of the year in Ghana—but it seems Kofas Media’s latest production starring Kalybos and Majid Michel as the two lead actors is going to have a tough time before becoming that blockbuster.
According to reports, Ghanaian Highlife legend-Amakye Dede has expressed dissatisfaction among the seemingly adopting of his well established name for the title of Kofas’s latest movie-Amakye & Dede.
And he has threatened to sue the production house-Kofas Media, producers of ‘Adventures of Kalybos’ and the comedy film-‘Kalybos in China’.
Apparently, someone from Kofas Media discussed the movie’s title with the musician who categorically expressed his concern as it being a complete rip-off of his well respected name and financial exploitation of the fame he has accrued on the back of the name—the reason why out of the many names in the world Kofas Media has opted for Amakye & Dede which can easily be mistaken for Amakye Dede.  
Despite Amakye Dede’s discontentment with the choice of name for the film, Kofas Media has gone ahead to start production—maintaining the same name for the film.
Amakye Dede has therefore decided to sue; to protect his name and stop Kofas Media from cunningly exploiting his name—reports claim.
As to how this will play out in court should Amakye Dede indeed sues can be hazily captured by revisiting what happened some few years ago in United States when Louis Vuitton sued those behind the film-Hangover for using fake LV bags in the comedy movie.
Of course it’s a little different to the situation at hand but the court threw out the claim against Hangover, stating that, the usage of the fake LV bags was in fact part of the comedy—an addon to Alan’s insane and self-indulgent character which the movie seeks to portray.
The movie ‘Amakye & Dede’ stars Kalybos, Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Grace Nortey, Ahouf3 Patri, Fred Nuamah, Moesha Boduong, Apostle Prah, Emelia Brobbey, Yaw Dabo and others.
Perhaps, Amakye Dede himself should take up a cameo in the movie…
