Singer Elton John has launched a scathing attack on Janet Jackson and what he thinks is her excessive lip-syncing.
Sir John, in an expansive interview with Rolling Stone, revisited an old favourite grip of his against singers who lip-sync. With Madonna having drawn his ire in the past, he directed it at Janet Jackson this time.
“You know, f**king music magazines writing a review of Janet Jackson saying, ‘This is the greatest show – four and a half stars.’
“It’s f**king lip-synced! Hello!” he said angrily. “That’s not a show! I’d rather go and see a drag queen. F**k off.”
Janet Jackson, who’s currently on her ‘Unbreakable’ tour, is unlikely to be amused by John’s utterances, just as Madonna was not amused.
But he speaks to an issue many people have with some singers, which is a little too much artificial conduct at live shows. There’s a reason people pay that much money to attend shows, and it’s not to hear the tape of songs they already have at home being replayed.
