It’s incredible that we have to say the same things every day, over and over and over again. We simply cannot recognise as a continent that we aren’t poor in spite of, but actually because of- our fervent religious beliefs.
It has festered a mindset of dependence on celestial favours, killed any charge towards science and technology that is the sure way to move towards massive development, and led to societies repressive to the rights of minorities, especially women and homosexuals.
And all that is left are charlatans like this guy, taking advantage of the gullible people waiting for their religious beliefs to be exploited. This deep need for the supernatural that we have boggles the mind, especially when no testable benefits from it that can be demonstrated.
A preacher in South Africa shared some photos on the Facebook page of his church, with a long story about how people in the bible escaped horrible situations through faith. 23 year old Pastor Thamsanqa Sambulo shared it on the Facebook page of the church he founded, Thy Word Kingdom Harvest Ministries.
He brought a kettle filled with ‘hot water’ into the church room, and proceeded to pour it on his congregants, saying their faith would make sure they aren’t burnt.
There’s no way to verify this as it’s just pictures, but that’s what he says happened. But even worse than this fake ‘miracle’ is the myriad of people happily praising him in the comments section.
Africans, being the superstitious breed that we are; have somehow turned the teachings of Jesus into magic and signs and wonders. That’s all our gullible little brains want to be fed.
