CHRIS-VINCENT Writes: The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council Has Been Totally UNFAIR to Bishop Obinim

Bishop Daniel Obinim
Bishop Daniel Obinim

Let me start by emphatically stating that I am not a fan of Bishop Daniel Obinim—and perhaps, I am his biggest offensive critic on the surface of the earth. Yet, I find it absurd, unfair and a complete act of sabotage for the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council to issue a letter denouncing Bishop Obinim, his methods and rapidly growing ministry.
For the first time, I am compelled to support Bishop Obinim and this is because, what’s fundamentally unfair is unfair, irrespective of the person receiving the contemptible treatment.
There are countless religious leaders in Ghana who are nothing more than charlatans to some of us—their teachings and methods are insane and even though Bishop Obinim is the contemporary juggernaut of the widespread insane religious miracles, you can still find sound grounding for whatever he does in the Bible.
Some Ghanaians believe in the healing powers of Bishop Daniel Obinim, he has a large following—although credulous, they are not any worse than those following the other sophisticated religious leaders.
It’s ironic that the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council is now looking to “regulate an industry whose entire selling point is that it does things out of the ordinary? Where do you draw the line?”
On what basis, and reasonable measure did the council use to ascertain that Bishop Obinim is a charlatan—and the others, including its sitting members are not?
When it comes to Christianity, all a person needs is FAITH—evidence and reasons are not part of the discourse. And therefore, is it not double standard, somewhat hypocritical to evoke human reason and measure to access the methods and ways of Bishop Obinim when we are told God works in mysterious ways and that all we need is to have faith?
There are Biblical standings for everything, no matter how mysterious or strange Bishop Obinim is doing. Therefore, I find it deplorable that the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council thinks Obinim is doing anything out of the scope of God or the Bible.
Jesus is credited as having said in John 14:12 that ; Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”
So what’s strange and out of context here that Bishop Obinim is being indicted for? The greater things or the extensively mysterious things which Jesus is said to have stated himself?
Jesus Christ turned water into wine, he raised another from the dead—today, Bishop Obinim is raising people from the death, appearing in people’s dreams and healing them or dishing out money into their bank accounts and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council seems not to believe these wonders of God?
If God could turn a staff into a snake, is the same God not capable of turning his servant into a snake?
It’s unfair to accept and grant that Jesus did everything the Bible says he did—he even walked on water and when Obinim says he is capable of turning into a snake, you call him a charlatan without any substantive evidence and proceed to sideline him.
Obviously, someone is threatened by Obinim’s increasing popularity. The man is being blessed by God with more followers, he has been given the gift of healing, teaching, prophesy and all the others—which many of these so called Ghanaian pastors sitting on the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council perhaps envy.
Of course the Bible also talks about the fact that in the last days, false prophets will show their heads and claim to be doing wonders in the name of Jesus Christ. But there’s no reasonable consensus that we are indeed in the last days (we’ve been in the last days for over 2000 years now) and no one has been able to prove with reason or evidence that Bishop Obinim is a false prophet.
If anything at all, the Bible admonishes that Christians should not judge—yet this is exactly what the council has done, judged and sentenced Bishop Obinim for ‘offences’ well grounded in Christian theology.
The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council would have been a little right if they were only marginalising Obinim for his attacks on other religious leaders, but even that, Jesus Christ equally threw tantrums and ransacked the church when the leaders were trading in there.
So if Obinim, a representative of God or Jesus Christ on earth finds some of the pastors’ antics as below his conception of holiness, wouldn’t he be doing the work of God by exposing and ‘insulting’ these fraudulent and adulterous pastors?
His human offences of verbal assaults could have been used as a justification for denouncing him but probably because none of these pastors in Ghana today is impeccable in that department, the council couldn’t rely solely on that. Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah insulted Bishop Obinim first—by calling his cherished followers ignorant, stupid or credulous. Yet, he is not being sidelined, rather he is one of the leaders of the council who signed the denouncing letter.
To use Bishop Obinim’s claim to fame; his outlandish miracles as a litmus test of his forgery is unfair—because the essence of a miracle is to beat the minds, doing something out of the ordinary. This is exactly what Bishop Obinim does and yet he is being chastised for this.
The conundrum in all this is not Bishop Obinim’s claims, his methods or followers, but an out-of-date foreign religion that stays outside the scope of reason, critical evaluation and evidence. The floodgate is opened—and it’s paradoxical for a religion which has no need for reason or evidence to suddenly use these same things to measure the sincerity of one of its people’s actions.
If indeed, no one can show for a fact that Bishop Obinim is a charlatan or he is performing his miracles not in the name of Jesus Christ contradictory to his claims, what reasonable scrutiny did his methods fail such that he has been labelled a charlatan and marginalised by a council full of people others regard as charlatans?
In solidarity with Bishop Obinim, anytime I am in Ghana, I will visit his church—for he has been unjustly treated by a bunch of people who equally exploit the credulity of Ghanaians.

  1. Who cares Chris!!? Your bias is sickening. Obinim has been ostracized because he’s irresponsible. Every position comes with behavioural expectations. As a pastor, there are some utterances he’s not suppose to make. The bible teaches us not to disrespect and turn the other cheek even if someone offends us. So yes obinims delivery is always bad and he needs this. So when u meet him advice him and stop having something silly to say anytime u wanna bash Christians.

  2. Indeed the fear of the Lord in the beginning of wisdom. Chris you think you’ve studied in two Universities in UK so you know it all. Being educated and reading and quoting Bible is far different from understanding the word of God. You may have common sense but that doesn’t make you wise. In fact you lack wisdom. Read Psalm 14. How can an atheist read and interpret the word of God to the men of God????? Chris what do you know about God and the Bible???
As soon as I started reading the article I knew where you were heading. Serve and talk about whatever and whoever you believe in and leave our ALMIGHTY GOD for us.

  3. if there is nothing about our GOD well so u claim y r u always looking for the slightest opportunity to attack HIM. Everything must be done in reverence and in order in the temple of GOD. Doing more them the things HE did has nothing to with miracles.Miracles are for the ‘now’ Christians and every true man of GOD is concerned about winning millions for Christ and that is the greatest miracle. JESUS was only 33 years on earth but de great commission has to be completed and HE will not come down in person to preach HIS WORD and save the lost. By grace we are able to live till 70 years and u may not have to change water into wine all u need to do is to lead people. Which miracle is greater than a drug addict encountering CHRIST and living right…dats de miracle we r talking about wai
