Filipino Man Has Been Crucified Every Year For The Past Thirty Years (Video)

Whilst the Islamic State terrorist group has in recent times been trying their best to remind us of how religion can lead to insanity, this man in the Phillipines has been doing so for thirty years.
Jesus is apparently killed every year on Good Friday, to awaken on Easter Sunday (somehow we’re told that is three days?). The crucifixion, the central tenet of Christianity, is when the son of God was killed to atone for the sins of man.
So Filipino Ruben Enaje, 55, gets himself crucified every year during Easter. It is a ritual he started thirty years ago when he survived a fall from a building.
The Associated Press has more, via NPR.org

Ruben Enaje and “14 other men, some screaming in pain, were nailed to wooden crosses by actors dressed as Roman centurions” in rice-farming villages in the Pampanga province north of Manila, while “thousands of foreign and local tourists snapped pictures” of the re-enactment,.
In each of his 30 years being crucified, Enaje has had four-inch stainless steel nails have been hammered through the same spot in his palms and feet. When the cross is hoisted up, he said, the movement adds to the suffering.
“The only thing in my mind is that God went through worse,” Enaje said
“The gory spectacle reflects the Philippines’ unique brand of Catholicism, which merges church traditions with folk superstitions. Many of the mostly impoverished penitents undergo the ritual to atone for sins, pray for the sick or for a better life, and to give thanks for what they believe were God-given miracles.

This is what the suspension of reality needed to believe in religion brings you.
A documentary on Enaje’s annual crucifixions can be viewed below…
