Former Ghana and Asante Kotoko striker Kojo Poku ‘Mahala’, has come out with some wild allegations against runners of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
According to the former Black Star, some players have to pay bribes to get call-ups, which in his mind, explains why some players do so well in Europe without getting call-ups.
He was speaking on Happy Fm in Accra:
I think the fortunes of the Black Stars are dwindling and it’s because players have to pay bribes to officials to gain entry into the national team.
Even though I’m no longer part of the team, most of the players are my friends and I speak with them.
Isn’t it surprising that a player like Enoch Adu Kofi is playing regularly and featuring in the Champions League consistently but is not getting a look in at the Black Stars?
I’m even aware that some players used to pay the school fees of some GFA officials so as to get a call-up to the national team.
Allegations such as these are nothing new, although none has ever been proven. The Black Stars are coming off two qualifying games against Mozambique in which they picked up four points and virtually guaranteed passage to the next African Cup in Gabon next year.
