Singer Rihanna has set another record in her young but burgeoning career, overtaking one of the greatest acts of all time to do so- The Beatles.
Rihanna’s total of nine weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘Work’ means she has now totalled 60 weeks at no.1 on the iconic chart, putting her ahead of The Beatles’ career total of 59 weeks.
Rihanna achieved the feat with 14 different songs- but despite moving ahead of The Beatles, she still significantly trails the current no.1 queen, Mariah Carey. Carey’s career total is 79 weeks atop the chart.
Artist totals include songs on which they collaborated with others, meaning Rihanna has artists like T.I and Eminem to thank for a portion of her total. ‘Live Your Life’, ‘Monster’ and ‘Love The Way You Lie’ were all songs on which she was featured, but whose significant chart topping runs helped boost her total.
The Billboard Hot 100, which has been charting songs for the past 58 years, is generally considered the standard in the industry. It charts songs by combining numbers accross radio play, online streams, and sales- it is released weekly, published by Billboard magazine.
