An employee of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) was arrested Monday by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) after he was found in possession of a gun as the President paid a working visit to the facility.
The worker, identified as Senanu Akpade, was picked up by the BNI as he was allegedly found displaying suspicious behaviour, behaviour which was picked up on by the security detail who arrested him and found a concealed weapon on him.
He was whisked away for interrogation, before the President- who was accompanied on the visit by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley- arrived.
According to reports, Mr Akpade regularly comes to work armed, although he conceals the weapon from his colleagues and security officials. As to why he need a weapon to work at a oil refinery is not clear.
The BNI are interrogating him to find out his motive for carrying a weapon ahead of a visit by the President.
Last year, a gunman, Charles Antwi, was arrested for carrying a gun into the President’s church. Charles Antwi claimed he wanted to kill the President so he can become President, although he was later found to be mentally ill.
