A Pennsylvania judge hearing the case of sexual assault against legendary comedian/actor, Bill Cosby, has ordered that the 78 year old stand trial on s*xual assault accusations.
The comedian has been accused by over fifty women of one form of s*xual indiscretion or the other- but the statute of limitations has expired on most of them, occurring in the 70’s and 80’s.
But Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee, claims she was assaulted by Cosby at his home in 2004.
Constand reported the issue in 2005, but the police decided not to follow up on the case. After the accusations against Cosby blew up recently, Constand told her story again, and prosecutors moved for a trial.
Judge Elizabeth McHugh, during the preliminary hearing, ruled that there was probable cause for a criminal trial to commence. Cosby waived his right to a formal arraignment, which expedites the timeline for the trial; although a date is yet to be set.
Cosby faces up to thirty years in prison if convicted.
