It’s this sort of bigoted comments which live in the hearts of most African religious people that is rather disgusting and repugnant, not two consenting adults having sex in the privacy of their homes.
And with a lot of atrocities and catastrophies all over, Allah must really have no priorities to care less about them and rather hold a keen interest in the sexual conducts of men.
According to a Ghanaian muslim cleric, sex between gay couples “disgusts Allah” and it’s responsible for earthquakes.
Mallam Abass Mahmud said in an interview: “Allah gets annoyed when males engage in sexual encounter and such disgusting encounter causes earthquake.”
The ignorance on which the above statement rests is obvious; this Mallam does not even know what causes earthquakes—yet he is so sure he knows what disgusts Allah.
And that wasn’t all, Mallam Abass Mahmud also added that the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed ‘as the result of homosexuality’—inferring that such calamity will befall any community that indulges in same sex.
His comments follow reports of heightened hostility among Zongo communities in Kumasi and the capital Accra towards homosexual relationships.
A local news station reported that a number of gay men have fled their homes because they were ‘afraid to disclose their sexual preferences for fear of attacks’.
Daily Mail qoutes Mahmud as having said: “Should we allow such a shame to continue in our communities against holy teachings? Certainly no, and we are very happy to chase away such idiots from our Zongo communities.”
As it stands, homosexuality remains illegal in 34 of Africa’s 56 states including Ghana, according to the International Gay and Lesbian Association
