The entire conversation in the US social media sphere the past few days has been dominated by squabbles over the death of a gorilla at a zoo in Cincinnati.
Harambe, a silverback Gorilla, was shot dead by zoo officials after a baby fell twelve feet from the viewing area into his enclosure, and the gorilla dragged it around in the water a few times. Panicking authorities made the decision to shoot the gorilla dead in order to rescue the child.
The decision has sparked outrage online, with animal rights activists saying the decision to use lethal force was too much, and many others jumping on the parents for failing to properly keep track of their child.
They argue that the gorilla was not going to hurt the boy, and that he was dragging him along due to the panicked screams of onlookers.
The Zoo’s director said they made a tough call but the right one.
“They made a tough choice and they made the right choice because they saved that little boy’s life. It could have been very bad.” he said.
But despite the decision, police are considering bringing charges against the parents for their handling of the situation. The child, luckily, sustained no injuries.

  1. The child climbed over the railings, waded through shrubs, climbed over more railing, and fell into the pit enclosure after repeatedly telling his mother he wanted to go in the water with excitement. The blame is solely on the irresponsible mother. She is responsible for the injuries to her child and the untimely death of this rare gorilla.
Everyone knows that children can dart off at the speed of light? So if you take your child to a freaking zoo which has various risks/animals and you can’t watch him or her then who’s fault is it?
She is damn lucky it was a gorilla and not a freaking Lion or Python! Then she had the audacity to come on Facebook to say “mistakes happen”.
Nonsense! Child protection services must investigate.
