It’s pretty shocking how low some Ghanaians go for the sake of money—and how the Former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Real Estates Developers Association (GREDA)-Dr. Alex Tweneboah got involved in Sim Box fraud shows how low even the educated are ready to go for money.
After a year of his arrest, Dr. Alex Tweneboah has today been sentenced to two years in prison and has been ordered to pay a further penalty of GHC 24,000.
According to CitiFmOnline;

The court found Dr. Tweneboah guilty of two counts of providing electronic equipment without license and possessing illegal devices with intent to commit crime despite pleading not guilty during the trial.
He, together with five others were arrested by a joint task force which included the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on January 15, 2015.
The task-force seized one SIM box with a 64-slot SIM server, 4G Internet modem, one laptop computer and mini antennas from a residence at Batsona, Manet area.

SIM Box fraud is a setup in which fraudsters install SIM boxes with multiple low-cost prepaid SIM cards, allowing the termination of international calls through local phone numbers in the respective country to make it appear as if the call is a local call, to attract low charges.
Apparently Ghana saved over 77 million dollars last year through a collaboration between Subah info solutions and the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Task force’s clamp down.
