Some Say Let Us Fast And Pray For A Peaceful Election | I Say Let Us Do What Is Right And Legal

Heart-Shaped-Hand-Love

“Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity”-George Carlin.

Peace is of great importance to nation building. It is the foundation upon which a nation solidifies. Right from the streets where we engage ourselves in nothingness to the roads vehicles use through to our family sects, schools and workplaces, the crown of peace must never be taken off our heads.
We all know the aftermath of chaos and wars and it is not as rosy as Christmas and New Year’s- not exactly something that would leave one drowning in a puddle of sweetness. No country would be in a hurry to invest in a country embodied in tumult, aside the loss of innocent lives and properties. Peace and nation building is but the two sides of the same coin, though one without the other can be extremely disastrous. The fact is peace is a mandatory element in nation building.
The relevance of this subject is what has prompted many to find any means to maintain the peace Ghana has had over decades. The many prophecies that had been revealed by our tithe collecting prophets cannot be left unmentioned. I couldn’t be less candid about the monthly prayers by our AGLOW ladies. Almost all their themes are directed at peaceful elections, well – the holy book does say ‘a fervent effective prayer of the righteous one availeth much’ – so our women have done undisputedly well. The many campaign songs by our celebrities and the “and many more squad” people, some of which causes cacophonies in our ears. All these highlights and places emphasis on peace but I deem them far-fetched and this is why.
As a people, discerning ones as such we all know what is expected of us before, during and even after elections. You know you have the right and it is your responsibility to vote for any party of your choice and you know double voting would result in nothing but an uproar.  One is expected to cast their ballot and leave the electoral premises until perhaps counting begins. No one is supposed to put up conduct that would in any way disrupt election proceedings and if one is not satisfied with the results, they have to resort to legal means for their concerns to be heard. The onus is on the Electoral Commission to serve the nation with free, fair and transparent election and anything below or above that is simply unacceptable and would eventually lead to turbulence.
The cold crippling truth is some people are ‘animals’ wearing the guise of humans. Haphazard reactions can be expected from such persons, they can either be spoken to or lawfully dealt with. Prayers has no hand in this. It is delusion or stupidity that can make someone think prayers can change stones to tubers of yam. You do not go about drinking stagnant water hoping that prayers would save you falling sick. It all boils down to doing not just what is right but that which is lawful too.
Maybe I want to flaunt my gullibility to the world. Let me allow myself to believe that prayers indeed would bring peace. Does it mean Liberia, Uganda, Kenya and all the many countries that suffered war did not pray hard enough or they didn’t pray at all? Maybe God is deaf after all or He was probably busy dealing with other tangible and pressing issues.
Who even wants war, when we enjoy queuing in the early hours of morning to buy waakye (Ghana’s official breakfast). Who wants war when Kumkum Bhagya is still showing. Who wants war when BukomBanku is still alive to entertain us? Even 200 days of fasting and prayers cannot save us until we do what is right and legal.
