Social media has taken over the world so crazily that it seems people spend their entire days on there, and there are people who literally do just that.
Social media has many upsides, but one huge downside is that being virtual reality, it is entirely in the power of the one posting to control the reality they project forward. Yet people tend to forget the virtual part of what they see all the time, and tend to consider social media as reality despite this obvious design flaw.
A fitness blogger named Tiffany illustrated how we can create narratives we want on social media, sharing two photos she took 12 hours apart which showed her with vastly different tummy sizes. She isn’t pregnant, but she looks it in one before bed photo, whilst the after bed is as flat as anything.
Tiffany explained the discrepancy – she suffers from bloat like that some days – but then went on to describe how it shows the way people are not always what they seem.
She wrote:

No I’m not 6 months pregnant. It’s just my food baby…These two photos are 12 hours apart, left before bed and right when I woke up…. I know right!! ?
“We are not all what we seem on social media. I thought I would share a bad day with you to show you nobody is “perfect” and it is ok to have an off day where your body just decides to not play ball. Don’t worry girls, it happens to the best of us, all part and parcel of being a female! It is a delightful cocktail of lack of sleep, stress, hormones and food intolerances. A mixture for a whole lotta bloat”

People do so many things to craft a certain image which they can project on social media, which others unfortunately see and also crazily aspire to. Tiffany is screaming that we shouldn’t believe everything she sees, and she certainly has a point.
