President Mahama is making waves today for his response to allegations of corruption in the case involving a Burkinabe businessman.
Burkinabe businessman Djibril Kanazoe gifted the President a 2010 Ford Escape vehicle a in 2012, a gift that has been described as a means to get a favour from the President – Kanazoe routinely does business with government and has received mega deals before and after the ‘gift’.
In responding to the saga today, the President sought to downplay the whole thing, although his choice of words might not have been the best.
“I don’t use Fords. I don’t like American cars. I use Japanese cars. Toyota is my car.”  He said.
Who cares if you use Ford or not? That’s not the question at hand at all. If I use X-box instead of Play Station, it doesn’t mean someone cannot bribe me with a Play Station.
The response trivialises what should be a serious issue, although the President doesn’t seem determined to treat it that way. But then, he has never cared much what his citizenry think, only doing what he and his officials like.
I guess the next contractor knows what brand of car to send now.
