Ghana forward Kwadwo Poku has signed for Miami FC in the second tier of US soccer, the Florida based club has announced.
Poku, 23, is joining the North American Soccer League (NASL) side from Major League Soccer (MSL) outfit New York City FC.
The young striker, capped once by Ghana, played 31 times for New York last season, scoring five goals.
“The Miami FC has acquired MLS and NASL veteran Kwadwo Poku from New York City FC.” The club said in a statement.
“Poku, a Kumasi, Ghana native, comes to the Miami FC after successful stints in the NPSL, NASL and the MLS.”
“We are thrilled to be bringing on a player like Poku onto our roster,” said Mauro Pederzoli, Technical Director for Miami FC. “Poku adds a physical presence to our attack and we believe he will help us achieve our goals for the fall season.”
Poku’s new side is a recently established club co-owned by businessman Ricardo Silva and Italian football legend Paolo Maldini. Maldini’s former Milan and Italy teammate, Alessandro Nesta, is head coach of the side.
The team returns to action when the NASL resumes in a fortnight.
