Nine people have been reported dead with some others injured after a stampede broke out during a party to celebrate the end of Ramadan in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday as revellers gathered at the Asawase Community Centre to celebrate the Eid ul-Fitr festival.
Reports indicate that a stampede was triggered by a power cut to the centre, and in the rush to get out people got trampled over. Nine have reportedly died with five others on admission.
The police have taken over the venue to restore calm, whilst a large crowd has reportedly gathered.
