The Electoral Commission (EC) has now accepted that it will delete all the names of persons who registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards from the electoral roll as ordered by the Supreme Court.
The EC had earlier denied the Supreme Court asked it to delete names of NHIS registrants citing portions of the ruling to support its arguments—but a second legal challenge by former National Youth Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako to seek clarification of the court’s ruling has settled the dust.
Spokesperson for the EC, Eric Dzakpasu, has told Joynews that “the institution does not intend to create any form of disaffection regarding the application of the orders given by the apex court.”
She said; “Definitely as a law abiding institution as we have always done, we are going to comply with the orders of the Supreme Court.”
